A plan to cut the state sales tax in Texas appears to be dead despite support from Gov. Greg Abbott and early bipartisan momentum that has faded as the Legislature heads into the final six weeks of the regular session.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan both want to deliver property tax relief this legislative session, but the Legislature’s top two Republicans are divided on how to do it and might be headed for a showdown if they can’t reach a compromise.
