Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is backing away from a proposal to reduce the information his office collects on the state’s largest corporate incentive program amid an avalanche of criticism from Texans concerned about the future cost to the state.

Critics of the Chapter 313 corporate tax incentive program say it lacks accountability and is burdensome to taxpayers in the state.

The point of gathering that data, Bryan said, “was to evaluate the impact of proposed legislative changes each session. With the expiration of the program, there is no longer a need to estimate the impact of legislative changes to a program.”
